Reversing Waste™ the new circular economy.

In Reversing Waste™ and valorizing Red Mud we will produce multiple products including High Purity Alumina (HPA) and Iron Oxide/s, with other products in the pipeline. The additional products are likely to include ammonium-based fertilisers and Rare Earth Elements (REEs).

High purity Alumina (HPA)

HPA is a form of aluminium oxide (Al₂O₃) with purity levels greater than 99.9% or 3N. HPA has a very high melting point, high thermal conductivity but low electrical conductivity, these properties mean that the material is in high demand, with years of production deficit being forecast.

Lithium ION BATTERIES

HPA is an important component in lithium-ion batteries, used to coat the separators, creating a safer, more stable and reliable battery. One of the major uses of lithium ion batteries is in electric vehicles, sales of which are forecast to be over 50% of global new car sales by 2040, resulting in a significant reduction in emissions.

Led lighting

HPA is also a critical element in Light Emitting Diodes (LED), another incredible growth product, and one which has a profound effect on CO2 emissions. According to the Climate Group “A global switch to energy efficient LED technology could save over 1,400 million tonnes of CO2 and avoid the construction of 1,250 power stations”.

Synthetic sapphire

HPA is the primary and non-replaceable component for synthetic sapphire, which due to its properties, is used in scratch resistant glass, for lenses, tablets, watches and screens.

Other uses for HPA include Phosphor compounds for use in LCD displays, air/fuel sensors in automotive applications, and advanced semiconductor coatings in emerging electronic devices. These applications owe themselves to the unique properties of HPA, which has excellent thermal conductivity and very high electrical resistance. It can therefore be used in extreme temperature conditions without sacrificing key functional characteristics.

Iron Oxides

With properties which include colour stability when exposed to sunlight, good stability under ambient conditions and good chemical resistance, High Purity Iron Oxide has many important uses.

Pigments & Coatings

One of the leading uses of Iron Oxide is as pigments in paints, construction materials and coatings. It is also used as pigment in colourants for the cosmetic industry.

Nano-technology

High Purity Iron Oxides can be used in the production of nano-sized materials which can be used in areas such as computer components and high-performance speakers.

Magnetic properties

High Purity Iron Oxides are also used in magnetic applications, for example magnetic inks, toners, transfer ribbons and other materials that require magnetic properties.

Fertiliser

Without the use of fertilisers we would not be able to sustain the global population, put simply the world needs fertilisers. With the United Nations forecasting that the global population will increase to 9.3 billion by 2050, the demand for fertilisers will increase significantly. Fertilisers will be crucial to ensure the continuous supply of healthy fruits and vegetables.

Useful at all scales

The Peloton process will produce Ammonium based fertilisers as part of waste remediation, which can be used either directly by the consumer, or as a pre-cursor for industrial producers.

Project

Peloton to-date has focussed on processing Red Mud from various Australian sites, with a dream of eventually building a full-scale commercial process plant utilising our proprietry process to valorise Red Mud.
